Kilts and Bagpippers

See.....women wear Kilts too!
And play Bagpipes and drums....
This is a family group from the New Orleans area named
"Haggis Rampant" who performs at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival and other various events.

My Tea group enjoyed their music very much.Father and Daughter having a little "Pipes" contest. It's always awe inspiring to hear Bagpipers, especially when the play the traditional Scottish songs that you often hear and of course.....then there's "Amazing Grace."

When they played it....I had goosebumps and nearly cried it was such a powerful moment.
Interesting how music can affect a person.

Kilts, and more Kilts........

I appreciated what my friend Teresa at "Southern Touch Catering" said when she commented on my last post stating this....
"I'll take the Kilts over the tights any day! Gotta love the Scott's & Irish!!!"

Well said Teresa.

Who cannot appreciate a great Kilt...? Now I suppose some of it depends on the wearer of such a thing. But I have seen some rather "large men" (as well as old and craggy too) in them..and still thought the Kilt itself looked lovely. It's just fabric.
But it is fabric with a meaning and a cause.
The fabric itself reflects and designates "heritage."
The colors and patterns reflect which "Clan" or family you belong to. And this doesn't pertain ONLY to the Scotts, the Irish and the Welsh wear Kilts as well.

There are many "rules" to Kilt wearing...you just don't slam one on. You need to understand what your doing, yet in some ways....I say "just have fun and wear one." Even if you can't find your correct clan or colors, etc.

Even certain "Regiments" of the various British Isle (Scotland, Ireland, Wales) Armies wear them.
Hummm....I bet Her Majesty was not "amused" but herself being Scottish..she knows how it works.

**By the way I had to GO back in and crop this photo because it SHOWED everything that was going on with that poor man!Good GRIEF! I didn't even realize it when I first worked this up until I previewed the photo afterwards.
Yikes! This is a "G" rated blog.
I bet he was embarrassed! But who knows...maybe not.

Moving onward...some Kilts are for "Dress" occasions.....like a Wedding or important occasion.

Now days there are these new "Modern" Kilts that are for even more "practical reasons"...they are called "Utility Kilts" and I suppose they are cooler than pants or shorts.

Regardless of the style or the colors, I think Kilts are just a fabulous way of showing your heritage.
And your boldness...even Prince's wear them in public.

Oh and PLEASE don't ask me that "what do they wear underneath thing."

That is a very "CHEEKY" question.

I don't even dwell on such matters.....besides.....I think we ALL know the answer to that anyway.

More Kilts from the Louisiana Renaissance Festival and some FABULOUS Bagpipers next time!!!

Louisiana Renaissance Festival

When you attend a "Renaissance Festival"...first thing you need to realize is that "PEOPLE like to dress up at these things."
So prepare for that. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. HA!

Next you can expect to be "hit on" by men in tights and odd outfits. This one was "supposed" to be a "French Noble Man."

Finally I said...."Okay...I'll take a photo with you"...at which time I asked him once I heard his strong accent which sounded much like one cartoon skunk AKA "Pepe Lepeu" .."are you supposed to be FRENCH??"
He said...."Oui" and I replied...."Sir, we don't like the French."
He then said to me...."Why, I took a bath today?" Hummm....I had to laugh. I asked him .."why didn't he just use a ton of French perfume like they normally did??"

I know, I know...this is LOUISIANA...but this was a pretty much BRITISH type Renaissance Festival. Or so I presumed. I found out later...that wasn't the case.

Then there is also every kind of "Renaissance" looking/acting person there that you can imagine there...This was a sweet little couple...with a huge horse. This young lady and her partner were making "crocheted hats" out of actual hair from her long haired rabbits.

People walk about eating those huge "Turkey drumsticks" like Henry the VIII or something...check out this guy dressed like a THREE Musketeer (not the candy bar) eating one over a trash can. Lovely.

"Jousting" is a typical event at these Fairs...

Here we have a "Zena Warrior Princess and her friend a Wench of some sort"
More Men in tights...tight tights....
And now...I have saved the best for last.

Mel Gibson!!!
Whoops...I mean "William Wallace".....I mean "Brave heart" oh...whoever he was...HE WAS A CUTIE!
I was too embarrassed to ask him for his photo so I sent my friend Marsha's pregnant daughter-in-law to do my dirty work and take his photo and then she yelled over at me and said....
"Hey Ms. Joyce, you better come take this picture because I'm GETTING IN IT WITH HIM!!"Smart Lass...I wish I'd gotten in it too.... Ugh.

Loved his kilt.
I am all about the kilts.

More photos AND Kilts... next time.

November 11th

I think the most important thing I could say on a day like today.
Would be......

"Thank you"

Thank you.
To each, and every one of you.
May GOD bless you and keep you.

Hummm....part 2 AND...a "Renaisanace Festival"

This is apparently how things are sizing up with Ida.

Let me just say that we are keeping "our eyes" on her right now...my husband bought some gas today for the generator "just incase." Blah.

In other news.....
The "Royal Court of Tea Sisters" attended the Louisiana Renaisance Festival today for a "Tea outing"...we went to not only enjoy the Festival but also to attend their first ever "Queen's Tea."
Diane, Tricia, Marsha, Kristy, and Joyce
I will give you more photos and details later in a day or two...if the hurricane doesn't knock out our power.

Hopefully we will fair well through this storm and will only experience some severe rain but you never can tell about these things until they arrive really.

I have a "Dental" appointment tomorrow so this bad weather might be a great reason to cancel it. :~)

Have a great Monday!

Hummm.........

Okay...who in the world said the "H" word??
I know it must of been someone.

Just when we have THREE blasted weeks left in the season and don't have any problems all year long.
Here come this "Ida" all trying to sneak up in the Gulf of Mexico.

I hate that.
We don't have time for this nor the energy. I mean it's nearly Christmas for Pete's sake.
Hurricanes are expensive and a pain in the behind...and worse than that even.
SADLY they do help the building industry and we are all suffering down here again. I know this personally because my husband is in that field. Blah!!

We don't want you coming to visit us Ida...so please just disperse into thin air because we don't want you going anywhere else either.

"Cest Si Bon"...translation: "it's all good."

Just so you all know I'm telling the truth...here are some "Fall photos" from my neck of the woods.
Well... a tad bit away 45 minutes or so from my house but still...you will get my point.

My husband and two of our sons are hunters. They recently went together and bought themselves a "duck hunting" boat. They are trying to learn how to drive it now before the season opens in a few weeks and are looking for a "sweet spot" to hunt.
They will be hunting here.....
Notice the RED nail polish on that "hunters hand"...that would be Kolin, Caleb's fiance...she went along with them to "Scout" this past weekend.

This is the "Atchafalaya Basin" and it's beautiful. This area is in between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, Louisiana.
This is the main route to get to Lafayette and you must first cross the Mississippi River...then travel over this large body of water on this main parallel bridge that is 18.2 miles long...

Right, I did mention this is over water for the entire 18.2 miles??? IF you have a "BRIDGE phobia" this is the place to cure it. Come drive with me to Lafayette.

We will go shopping and eat awesome food while the men hunt.

Don took these photos for me from the boat. He wants me to go out there in all that water with them...but I am sort of hesitant. Because there's gators in there and they might want to eat me.
Because I'm so sweet and all.

So this is "Fall" in Louisiana so far.
What do you think?

Now these trees in the water will loose their leaves generally and some may not...it will get a bit more sparse but it won't be totally bare. We do have a few "chicken" or junk trees turning color..but they are typically yellow. Some small maples people have in their yards are turning red. But that's about it.

It never is really colorful down here nor does it get very bare.
We love our winters...usually.

But our summers last WAY too long.
It was over 70 degrees here yesterday....low humidity.
A VERY beautiful day here..but not "Fall like" compared to the rest of the United States.

Ya'll come see us in early March when your sick of winter...because our Azalea bushes will be blooming then. :~)
