Our family has a "St. Patrick's Day Dinner" for guests and friends. We've done this for a million years or there abouts give or take a few years.
We always make what we consider to be "traditional" Irish Foods....Corned Beef and Cabbage. boiled Potatoes, and Carrots...Potato Rolls, etc.
I must tell you that I've traveled to Ireland and what we do in America, ummm....it's not the "real deal" actually. It is to Irish "Americans" but not in Ireland.
My take on is this....When in Rome and all that you know....
Actually Corned Beef is the part that isn't so "Irish" as we like to think it is...it's "American Irish."
In Ireland they use a type of "ham" in the place of Corned Beef.
However we being "American Irish"...follow the traditions of our families here in the new world.
My Father-In-Law in Iowa, made Corned Beef and Cabbage EVERY
St. Patrick's Day that I can remember and as far as my husband can remember before me.
So we have carried on that tradition as well and my little family LOVES Corned Beef and Cabbage and POTATOES. Got to have those potatoes of course.
It tastes SO GOOD!
We eat this dish all throughout the year when we have the oppertunity.
If you have never tried this dish before.....give it a chance.
I am always looking for new Irish dishes to add in for our meal.
Maybe you are as well.

I have never had corned beef and cabbage. And you know why? Because of very bad memories of corned beef hash from a can. OMG I hated it.

THAT IS SO FUNNY....well that canned stuff is nothing like the REAL thing. Not at all.....so you have to try the other. We would invite you over if you all were here.
In fact....I would invite everyone reading this. HA!
Try some local restaurants....of course every "Irish" Pub in America does this meal on St. Paddy's Day but we don't do that craziness.

Kae....there's alot of other Irish cookbooks too and you can even search Irish recipes on Irish websites. I might put some of those sites on here in the next few days.
I have some Irish ancestry but St Patrick's Day isn't celebrated to the same extent in Australia as it is in the US. Most of our early convicts came from Ireland.
In 1996 I went to a reception in Dublin at the President's palace and met Mary Robinson, the then Irish president. She was wonderful. She kept a candle in her window to shine out to all the Irish who had emigrated around the world.

Which book do you like the best? The Irish in me is drooling! I love corned beef and cabbage. One year, I made it in the crockpot and it was deeeeeelish!

The first book has great photos in it and overall is just a nice recipe book...myself, I am more in liking of the "Traditional" cookbook. I have another one I will showcase later. Today I have more serious things I have to post and talk about. UGUGUUUGH!
