We Got it Going On......

I thought I would see if I could get this on here before the power goes out....it's been "flickering" quite a bit so I know it's coming at some point.

I'm having my "cup of tea" right now.
But they are still sleeping and it's nearly 9:50am but it's very dark like a "cave" in our house because of the "boarded up windows."

We left a few windows "uncovered" (not boarded over with plywood) so that we can see what's going on but only on the safe areas...such as our front room window and the dining room window. I woke up at 7:30am....and I thought it was the middle of the night. HA!!!

I wanted to be awake for when the storm comes inland which is supposed to be around 10:00am....so we are just a few minutes away from that moment.

I wanted to hurry and get breakfast made for my family and do one last load of laundry and do a few quick things before the power goes.

When it's like this....all nasty outside....you really do feel "Snug As A Bug In A Rug."

You hear....
that "Big Bad Wolf" is trying to "huff and puff and blow your house down".......but you feel safe and secure and your all "cold (we want to be cool...because it's still so hot down here) and snuggly inside."

Safe from those hurricane winds.
Well, until they make the power fail that is. Then you get all sweaty and become hot and crabby.
NOT FUN.....Ugh....

That's why I just turned that Air Conditioner down REALLLLLLY low right now....in preparation for that. Because once the storm passes...it's nasty and HOT and HUMID!!!

Okay I just heard a big LOUD "thump" outside....like something hitting the roof. Ugh.....dare I open the door and look??? It's so tempting but it's also dangerous. I hate that.

The wind is WILD right now and the rain is coming down really hard but so far so good....
I hope it stays this way. This we can handle.

Although I think it's going to kick up a bit more as we are just now getting into the landing of this thing.

Oh Lord!!!
I just heard another big loud creepy noise outside!!!!

That is what is the hardest thing all the weird noises and you don't know if the roof is coming off or what.
Oh MY GOSH!

I just opened my front door to peek out because I couldn't stand it anymore...and what do I see but my NEIGHBOR lady across the street outside in her PAJAMA gown walking down the street in front of her house!!!
So I yelled at her.....
"WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY??"
And she said......"I heard a BOOM"......I said "So did I but I'm not going out there to see what it is...." and she said.....
"It's my neighbors......they lost a branch."

Then she waltzed back towards her house with her arms up in the arm embracing the winds....HA! Then she yells to me....."I'm soaked" and I yell back...."Yeah I guess so"...and I see her husband looking out of their doorway not venturing out himself but just looking out to make sure she was still alive.

Are people nuts or what.....HA!
That's how you get killed you know....you hear those odd noises and you can't help but want to go look and then you get bonked on the head by some flying debris.

Next time I hear a "thud or a boom".....I'll just call Kim across the street....she'll go look for me. HA!

NOW the weather is much worse than when I first started this..soooooo we will see what happens.
It's going to be a LONG day I can tell...... And this Gustav hasn't even made landfall yet.

I think I want to go BACK to bed!

Joyce, hope things turned out okay for you. We got lucky and didn't get the full brunt of the storm. I know ya'll did and I hope you get electricity back on soon. We got our late last night and that cool air felt so good. I'm glad I didn't go to Gramercy. Love and Hugs, Pat

Joyce, just checking to see if you are back on line. I heard it may take weeks to get ya'll back on. I know in Gramercy, their lines are in the marshlands, so Brenda is running her house and hubby's company on generators. Hope you are okay and not much damage. Saw some pictures, but mostly of New Orleans instead of where the most damage occured. Prayers for ya'll. Love and Hugs, Pat :(

Great post! It helps to give us "earthquake country" folks a better perspective of hurricanes. I'll admit that I would love to eat a breakfast like that before becoming sweaty and grumpy! What a spread.

Obviously from the date on your post, things haven't quite returned to normal. I've been thinking about you, praying for your family, and watching the news programs that show hurricanes lined up like a processional. I found the lyrics below and thought I would share them with you. Hopefully, you will be able to read them soon...

All who sail the sea of faith
Find out before too long
How quickly blue skies can grow dark
And gentle winds grow strong
Suddenly fear is like white water
Pounding on the soul
Still we sail on knowing
That our Lord is in control

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered peace be still
He can settle any sea
But it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

He has a reason for each trial
That we pass through in life
And though we're shaken
We cannot be pulled apart from Christ
No matter how the driving rain beats down
On those who hold to faith
A heart of trust will always

This is a beautiful song written by Scott Krippayne.

Hugs, KJ
